About Cal O. Trevenen

During his extensive legal career, Cal has counseled and represented numerous clients in transactional real estate matters; land use (zoning & planning) cases; residential, commercial and industrial tax appeals; and estate planning and estate administration matters.

Before joining Spiro Harrison & Nelson LLC, Cal was for fifteen years managing partner of Montclair law firm Ashenfelter, Trembulak, McDonough, Golia & Trevenen LLP. Prior to that, he was a founding partner of the boutique tax appeal firm Garippa & Trevenen, where he represented numerous Fortune 500 clients in reducing their real estate tax obligations to local government entities.

Prior to commencing his practice of law in 1979, Cal was a mortgage and commercial lending officer with a major New Jersey banking institution. He has served as pro bono legal counsel and as a board member and trustee for numerous Montclair area non-profit organizations. He is currently an active trustee of the Partners for Health Foundation.

Cal has served for more than 20 years as the President of The Whitehill Foundation, a grant-making foundation headquartered in Montclair. Whitehill annually assists various non-profit entities with operating grants to assist those organizations in fulfilling their respective missions.

Cal graduated from Kearny High School, received his B.A. degree in 1968 from Colgate University, earned an M.A. degree in public administrations from Rutgers University, and obtained his law degree from Seton Hall University School of Law. He has served as an elected Town Council member and an appointed Planning Board member, and is a Vietnam-era veteran of the United States Army.
